Making Over My Guest Bedroom (on a budget)

I recently took over the upstairs floor of my house that I used to rent out to a tenant. That said, I now have an extra bedroom for guests to stay in…but it’s currently pretty bland, only containing a bed and two side tables. I went to the drawing board and started creating a plan. I want the room to be classic and elegant, pretty minimal and all together a simple makeover that I won’t want to change for a long time. That said, all these furniture items in my mood board tend to run really expensive, and I want to do this on a budget, so I am thrifting, DIYing and up cycling some items I already had to pull this off!

Inspiration / Mood Board

Before

This room is pretty small so I don’t have much space to work with, but some of the requirements I have for changes are :

  • adding in plants

  • create a textured headboard

  • bring in some wood tones

  • have a mirror for the guests to see themselves in

After

I brought in some second hand art, plants, a marketplace find mirror and a thrifted new funky light. I also DIY’d a pleated headboard and two DIY side tables to span across the back wall to make the room look a bit bigger. I decided I didn’t want to repaint the walls so that the light would stay bright in the room, as the window was pretty small. All together, I love how it turned out and the makeover barely cost me anything!
