Taking Care Of Yourself This Year

Every year you see videos, posts and people talking all about ‘New Year, New Me.’ In theory, this is an awesome idea, but can easily get overwhelming, so let’s break it down into what I am doing in this ‘New Year’, or better yet, starting RIGHT NOW, to get my sh*t together!

Give yourself a morning routine! This looks different for everyone but I find that adding routine into my morning starts off my day on the right foot. Here are 3 things I do in my morning to get my mood set straight.

1. Do not check your phone as soon as you wake up!! This is sooo much easier said than done, but even taking 5 minutes to do other things for your mental and physical health before checking your phone will start your day on the right foot.

2. Drink a big glass of water!!! It’s simple to get into the habit of waking up and instantly reaching for the coffee or tea, but before you grab that morning staple beverage of yours, down a full glass of water to stay hydrated and healthy. Start of your day with one healthy choice and more will follow!

3. Journaling is so often talked about when it comes to self care, but it’s really hard to keep up with, and can easily start to feel like a chore. I have found a very short and easy method of journaling that works for me and only takes me a minute or two in the morning. I write a sentence about what I am grateful for, one for how I’m doing, and a check list of my morning routine tasks (water, skincare and journaling). Remember to not be too hard on yourself and remind yourself of your worth! You don’t need to write a novel every time you go to journal, start by writing down one sentence or positive thing about yourself! #selfaffirmation
