Easy DIY Shelf Riser for Kitchen Storage
If you have ever fallen down the kitchen organization rabbit hole on Pinterest like me, you’ve seen kitchen shelf risers. They are so practical and aesthetically pleasing, but a lot of the cute ones can be quite pricey (look at the price of the west elm ones below)!! I found out a super simple way to make some myself that wouldn’t break the bank!
First things first, I went to Home Depot and found the most inexpensive piece of wood that would work for this project. I ended up getting a piece of IRVING 1x10x8 Shelving. This amount of wood will produce 3 shelf risers using my measurements and it cost me a total of $12.
At most hardware stores, they actually can cut wood for you (either for free or for a small fee depending on how many cuts you are getting). These were my measurements I did but please note that this will be subject to change depending on the space you are doing this for!
Now it’s time to assemble! First I went in with some wood glue and then drilled a small pilot hole for my screw to secure the sides to the top piece.
Once everything was dried and secure, I went in with some fine grit sand paper and made sure all the edges were smooth. Then whip them clean before you go to the next step.
I used a Varathane One Step Oil-Based Stain & Polyurethane in Satin Classic Oak. This is great because it’s a stain and seal in one and can be applied easily with a paint brush.
Once they are dry, you can style them on your counter, in your cupboards or even on open shelving like I did. This is a great way to display your favourite kitchen products!
