DIY Christmas Home Decor: Recreating Crate & Barrel Items on a Budget

Welcome back to our series, That Cost How Much?!?! where we recreate overpriced decor items with affordable materials and a touch of DIY. In this episode, I decided to tackle a Christmas ites that left me genuinely questioning how it could be so expensive, the “Faux Botanical Arrangement in Poe White Volcanic Glaze Vase” from Crate & Barrel, priced at $278.75 USD.

Materials

  • Thrifted Vase

  • Spray paint

  • Stone Spray Paint

  • Dollar Store Paints

  • Cyprus Tree Cuttings

  • Faux Berry Branches

Steps

My first thought was to go to the thrift store because they ALWAYS have vases there. As soon as I got there, I found a comparable vase for only $18; granted it wasn’t the right colour scheme but I knew I could change that.

To achieve the colour I was looking for, I primed the surface of the vase with a spray paint called Heirloom White and then used a bristle brush to flick watered down black paint onto the surface. All the paints I used totalled to $10.48.

Once the vase was looking the way the original product’s did, I went out and purchased faux berry branches ($4) and some tree cuttings ($6.50). If you want this to last forever, you can splurge and get faux branches which will probably cost you a tad more, but I am willing to promise it will be cheaper than $278 lol <3

Cost Comparison

Breaking it all down, I personally think that the comparison turned out just as beautiful and on a way more beautiful budget too!

  • Original: $278.75 USD

  • DIY: $38.98
