DIY Hanging Pillow Headboard

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

  • Curtain rod

  • Brown vinyl

Start out by laying out your fabric of choice and drawing out the dimensions found on our FREE template here on the back side of the fabric. Make sure to add the seam allowance to your traced shapes to make sewing so much easier!

Once everything is drawn out, go ahead and cut everything out. Using super sharp fabric scissors for this makes everything super easy. Next, lay out your biggest front piece of fabric and lay your two back pieces on top of the front piece, making sure to overlap the two back pieces to be the same size as the front piece. Go ahead and take these two pieces to the sewing machine, and sew the two pieces together along the overlap. Next, grab your two longest strips and sew them together to create one long strip, and then sew the two ends together of your new long strip to create one loop!

Next, take the two shortest bits of fabric and fold each of them onto themselves to create a tube and sew along the middle to create a strap. Do this with both pieces.

Now you will have one large back piece, one piece that is made up of the two smaller pieces, and your one long loop piece. Time to sew your long loop to the edges of the large piece. This will make the pillow a 3D shape! We used binder clips to clip the good sides of the fabrics together. Go ahead and clip the edge of your loop all around the edge of your largest front piece of fabric. While you are clipping, make sure to add the straps for your loops between the two good sides of the fabric. Make sure the straps are pointing in towards the middle of your pillow. Once you have clipped all the way around, take this to the sewing machine and sew everything together! Next, grab your back piece and do the same thing we did with the front piece, clipping and sewing all along the edge. Make sure to pull your straps out of your project and make sure you are sewing the other end of the strap to the opposite seam. Once everything is sewn up, flip your project inside out and stuff it with some thick foam or some stuffing!

The final step is to hang your curtain rod behind your bed and add the pillows to the rod!
