DIY Industrial Pipe Side Table
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
½ Inch plywood
Wood glue
Wood filler
Nail gun or nails or screws
½” PVC pipe
Pipe cutter or hacksaw
To make this side table we started by measuring two 11” x 15” pieces onto our ½” plywood. We used a mitre saw at a 45 degree angle. So this again, but measure two 11” x 5” pieces of plywood, and again cut them at a 45 degree angle. Make sure that your angled cuts angle towards the middle of the wood, making a trapezoid shape. This will ensure that all of the pieces will fit together nicely. Go ahead and sand everything down!
Next, use some wood glue to assemble your box and use a nail gun to hold everything in place. We then used some wood filler to fill in any gaps in the wood and give the box a refined look. Let this dry fully.
Next, grab your ½” plywood and cut out another piece that is the size of the front of your box. This will act as your front door. Once cut give this piece a good sand. Once sanded, stain your box and front door.
Time to create the legs. We grabbed some ½” PVC pipe. Use a pipe cutter and/or hacksaw to cut four 19” pieces, one 11” piece, and four 3” pieces. We also picked up four 90 degree corner pieces, two ‘T’ pieces, and four caps.
Start by doing a dry assemble. Add the 90 degree corner pieces onto all four of the 19” pieces, then add your 3” pieces onto the other end of the corner pieces. Then add the T pieces to create two “U” shapes, and use the 11” piece to connect the two “U” shapes with the ‘t’ piece.
Take everything apart and reassemble, this time using construction adhesive. Once everything is dry, give your legs a coat of primer, then a coat of hammered metal spray paint in black.
Let the legs dry, and grab your caps from earlier. Drill a hole in the center of the flat side of each cap.
Next, we added a drawer pull to the front of the door piece. We then added hinges and a magnetic drawer closure to complete our box.
The last step is to add the legs to the box. We then added the (now painted) copper caps to the bottom of the wood box, and slid the legs into the caps using some construction adhesive to hold everything in place. Let everything dry and you’re done!
