UGLY Thrift Store Challenge - Fashion Edition

Today we put a new spin on thrifting, with some UGLY items we picked out for each other. We loved making this video so if you enjoyed it too, let us know down below! We have done this time & time again but it truly never gets old! What would you want to see us thrift flip next?

Two-Piece Leather Set made from oversized coat

Although this simple leather jacket is not the ugliest item of clothing you’ll ever see - it defiantly needed a huge upgrade to fit my style, my size and all together aesthetic. When brainstorming, my gut told me to run with the ‘badass biker chic’ look, because I had a lot of leather to work with.

There was already a draw string at the waist, so there was an obvious place to chop it to make a two piece set. Once it was cut in half, I cropped the jacket part a bit more to fit my body and took out the inside lining to reduce the bulkiness. I also cinched in the back for more of a fitted look through the bottom. For the skirt, I made a large dart in the back to fit it closer to my body and again, took out the inside lining to thin it out. The drawstring waist helped to keep it simple and eliminated any finishing I had to do for the edges.

Here’s the final look!

Corset top made from thrifted dress

There are so many old bridesmaid dresses in every thrift store, so I knew that this would be do-able for anyone on the hunt. I got this dress with a separated bodice and chopped the skirt section off (save the fabric for later for a different DIY!).

The steps were simple. cut the bodice in half to add hook and eye tape to resemble a corset in the front. I also hemmed the edges to be more of a diamond cut rather than a straight edge to liven it up a bit. Lastly, all I had to do was adjust the fitting to make it better suitable to my bodice and voila! Easy major upgrade.

Here’s the final look!
