Begin by laying your faux leather or vinyl flat with the back side up. Download our Airpods Case template for $0.99, cut the pattern out of the paper and then trace the paper pattern on to your fabric. Make sure to mark where you will need to punch out holes later.
Once traced, cut out the pattern. For the corners, use a leather punch to get a clean edge. You’ll also want to cut out the extra rectangle that will make the loop for your keychain. Then, use your leather punch to punch out the holes marked on the template. Hot tip, you can also use the leather punch to punch out the edges of the charging cord hole, and then cut the excess off to make a perfect oval!
Using black Edge Kote, or black paint if you don’t have Edge Kote, paint the edges of the fabric black, including the extra rectangular piece. If your fabric is coloured on both sides, then you can skip this step!
Once dry, it’s time to secure your keychain loop rectangle to your case. Fold the rectangle in half, and then slightly offset the fold. Now find a comfortable place on the back of your case to add the loop. Once found, punch out two holes side-by-side (but with some space between) through both your loop and your fabric case.
Using thread, secure your loop on to your fabric airpods case. You’ll want to repeat this step again lower on your loop so that you have two stitches securing the loop to the fabric.
Now grab your rivet of choice and push the left side flap on to the bottom rivet pin, then the right side flap, and then the bottom flap so that it makes a pouch. Secure with the top of the rivet. Now, cut a small slit above the hole you previously made for the rivet to go through. This will help the fabric slip over the rivet more easily.
Finally, cut out a small circle of felt that just covers the inside portion of your metal rivet, and hot glue the felt to the metal rivet. This will protect your Airpods case from getting scratched.
Secure on to your keychain of choice, slip in your Airpods case, and you have completed your DIY Airpods keychain case!
