Make Your Own Yoga Mat Strap!
THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
Macrame cord or rope
2x Wooden rings
Start by measuring out three ropes that are 6 feet long (these will be your inside ropes), and two ropes that are 18 feet long (these will be your outside ropes). Gather the tops of your ropes and put them through one of the wooden rings. Fold them over a couple of inches and hot glue the ends down. Once glued together, use a separate piece of macrame cord to hide the original ropes by wrapping it around and gluing it down.
Secure the ring down to a table or wall with some tape to make it easier when knotting the rope, and you’re ready to start knotting! Make sure that the three short ropes are in the middle and the two longer ropes stay off to the sides. You’re going to be creating a square knot with your ropes that then repeats for the whole pattern. To do this, start with the left side and make a “4” pattern with your left outside rope, laying it on top of the middle ropes. Then bring the right long rope over the left rope you just folded over, and push it under and through the large hole of the “4”. Pull it tight, and your first square knot is complete!
Repeat this sequence but use the right rope now and make a “P”, following the same sequence as above. Once you complete the first two, you simply repeat this action, alternating sides, until you almost reach the end, leaving about 1 foot of rope unknotted.
When finished knotting, push your rope through the original ring so that it forms a loose loop on one side. This will be where one end of the yoga mat sits.
Repeat this with your other ring by pushing the ring on to the rope, and then wrapping the raw ends of the rope back into the ring, securing it. Once the raw ends are tucked in to the ring, glue them down exactly how you did with the first ring. Use a separate piece of macrame cord to complete the look.
You should now have a knotted cord with two loops. Slip your yoga mat, blanket or towel on to each end, and you have your own macrame yoga mat holder!
