IKEA Hack 3-Drawer to 4-Drawer Dresser DIY!
We’re back with another IKEA hack! Today I’m tackling the IKEA Ivar dresser, and turning it from a pine-coloured three-drawer dresser to an oak-stained four-drawer dresser! I already owned these dressers but I really wanted them to fit flush in my closet and the only way to do that was to cut one of them up and add a drawer each onto the other two. They fit so much better now and I am so pleased with how they turned out!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
8 knobs of choice
Wood stain of choice
Nails & screws
Wood glue
Screwdriver
Hammer
Saw
To start this DIY, measure out 93cm from the top of the dresser and 93cm from the bottom of the dresser. Remember that you’re going to use the top and bottom only, not the middle piece, so you’ll want to cut in a straight line around the entire dresser at 93cm height to sever the bottom and the top from the middle. Make sure to do this without the drawers inside.
Once cut, use some wood glue to adhere the top piece to the top of one of the new dressers, and the bottom piece on to the bottom of the other. Then using your corner brackets, attach one on the inside of each side of the new 4-drawer dresser, securing your cut drawer onto the existing dresser.
Once the wood glue is dry, stain both 4-drawer dressers with the stain of choice. I went with a dark oak colour.
Add your knobs on to each drawer by drilling two holes and attaching your knobs with screws. Place your drawers back inside your dresser and your DIY is complete!
I am so happy with how this turned out, it’s the perfect organization and storage solution for my tricky situation, and it honestly looks like this dresser was designed this way.
