Turning My Kitchen Into A Dual Workspace (Home Office Makeover)
Anyone with a small space will know the struggle of trying to figure out how to find room for a desk, especially if they work from home. In this blog post, I’ll take you through the journey of surprising my boyfriend, Elliott, with a complete office makeover.
Before
Colour Palette
Because Elliott’s office chair (that I can’t change) is grey and the kitchen in mainly white, I decided to go with a neutral colour palette of browns, whites, greys and greens. To start off the makeover, I colour blocked the wall by painting the bottom half a dark chocolate brown.
Custom Corner Desk
The pièce de résistance of the makeover was the custom corner desk, a creation made by my friend Rochelle. Check out the full blog post about making the desk here. Her detailed planning resulted in a desk that not only fit Elliott's computer setup perfectly but also added a nice warm tone wood colour to juxtapose the dark wall.
Gallery Wall & DIY Whiteboard
I filled the wall above the desk with a gallery wall of sentimental art work, hanging plants, and an upcycled large picture frame that I painted to be used as a white board.
Cozy Rug & Curtains
I found a brown rug on Etsy, that matched the vibe I as going for, which immediately warmed up the space when I put it in. But one of the best changes to the space was some handcrafted curtains, that I hung using clip-on curtain rings, not only added a nice contrast in colour, but also served the dual purpose of camouflaging the laundry in the corner.
Plants & Open Shelving
To make the kitchen look more inviting, I turned one of the cupboards into an open shelving using, and aded some wallpaper for some interest. Elliott also has a TON of plants, so we could style them there to make it look super intentional.
Final Reveal
The space is so functional and Elliott loved coming home to the surprise of a transformed room! He is so happy with all the final touches scattered through the room and is excited to get working in there!
