Epic Storage Room Makeover - Loft Vibes
Loft Vibes season 4 has officially begun as we transition from our previous loft office to our bigger and better garage warehouse studio! It’s a total blank slate and we’re so excited to start designing it. If you’re not familiar with our Loft Vibes series, you can catch up from the very first season with this playlist here! For this makeover, we need to deal with our little, or rather HUGE, storage problem! We have so many tools, decor and DIY supplies that we need an entire room to keep them all in, so we had our contractors build a massive barebones storage room in the middle of our space. Check it out before we started completely DIYing it:
BEFORE
This is a super blank slate which is what we wanted, with unfinished walls on the inside and unfinished drywall on the outside. We also had our contractors install this amazing arched pocket door that adds a completely new element to this room that we’re so in love with!
To start, we need to paint the whole thing inside and out to make it match our new office aesthetic. We went with a fun mustard yellow on the inside and did a really cool plaster effect on the outside.
To do this, we taped off the drywall on the outside with drywall tape and then mixed some Sheetrock90 drywall compound plaster. Using flat putty spatulas, we smeared the drywall compound onto the wall with the goal of it looking rough and not completely finished. This method is replicating earthy Adobe-style homes that are very textured. We used this method on all three walls and once it was dry we painted it a neutral off-white beige colour. Lastly we painted the arch door a warm terracotta colour to bring the whole colour scheme together.
On the inside, we added built-in shelves between the frame of the walls (made from the wood used to make our platform in the old loft!) and a huge workbench across one entire wall of the room. The shelving will hold all of our tools and extra home decor we have laying around. We also brought in 2 cabinets that we used in our old loft space that will now hold all our camera gear and other DIY supplies. Finally, we built a giant wood cart to hold our bigger pieces of leftover wood (this was inspired by Rachel Metz, check her out!).
All that’s left is the finishing touches! We hung some string lights, moved all our decor in and also added super cool neon pink labels to the shelves. Take a look at the first completed makeover of our new office!
