Loft Vibes is the series where we makeover our office space into the studio space of our dreams! Season 4 has begun, and we made the move from our old loft office to a huge industrial garage studio, but it needs A LOT of work to make it come to life as the vibey studio space we’re dreaming of. We chose a small blank corner of our office for this vanity because we need a place to get ready and freshen up our makeup and wardrobe since we’re creating content on multiple projects most days. Check out this corner before our custom makeover!

BEFORE

THE PLAN

For this space we’re going to install two floating desks in an L shape so that both of us can get ready at the same time, and have some drawer storage for our cosmetics. We also need some great lighting, two mirrors and two chairs to complete this vanity. Let’s get started!

The desks that we chose are the IKEA EKBY ALEX floating shelves that have two drawers, but we decided to DIY them with a super cool IKEA hack that creates a custom finish. To see how we made this DIY, check out all the instructions on our IKEA hack floating corner desk blog post here!

Next, since the white of this wall is very stark, we decided to paint an off-white/greige organic accent feature that pairs really well with the paint feature we pulled off in our lounge boardroom makeover. This ties in our style really well, and also makes this corner feel a lot warmer! We continued this colour on the desk to make the whole thing cohesive.

Since this is a vanity where we’re going to do makeup, we needed really good lighting that starts with the backlit mirrors we picked up. While these are good on their own, we swapped out the warm yellow lights with some smart Philips Hue strip lights so that this vanity is compatible with our smart home and can change colour! We also installed pegs on the wall using some dowels and double ended dowel screws to hang our smart pendant lights beside the mirrors.

To complete this space we added some thrifted decor, two bar stools, a cool thrifted curved clothing rack and of course, our beauty supplies! Take a look at our clean & modern DIY vanity makeover:
