Complete Entryway Room Makeover From Start to Finish!

When it comes to room makeovers, we are definitely seasoned professionals, but we get asked ALL the time about how we REALLY pull them off: what design apps we use, where we shop, how long the whole thing takes. So this blog is for you curious people out there: an entryway makeover from start to finish explaining how we pulled it off!

The first thing we do when planning a room makeover is go to the space, measure, and get a feel for it to gain inspiration. This is what the condo entryway/hallway looked like before:

Next you need to evaluate what you need to add to the space functionally, what you want aesthetically, and what furniture or decor to keep, upcycle, or get rid of. In this case the girls who lived here wanted more shoe storage, wanted this makeover to be somewhat renter friendly, and wanted it to be under $500. They also needed somewhere to hang more coats and keep their yoga mats. Once that was established, we went to work on some plans for them.

THE PLANS

Usually we come up with multiple plans and let the room owner choose their favourites or make adjustments. We use an app for the iPad called Procreate in addition to using Adobe Photoshop for the designs, and often pull inspo pictures from Pinterest. In this case they loved the design, however they wanted individual coat hooks rather than a whole coat rack, so we adjusted the design to fit it. We also originally wanted to do a peel-and-stick wallpaper, however it was outside the budget, so we went with painting an accent wall instead since it was more cost effective and could still be painted back white upon moving out.

Next we needed to source all of our products, which can take time especially if you’re ordering online. Once we did all the ordering we went shopping for the rest, and set a date to pull off this makeover!

Install day arrived, and if you’re making over your own space then you can always do things a bit slower over time, but we do makeovers in a matter of a day or 2 since they’re often not in our personal spaces. Once we brought everything up we started with painting, then installed all of the shelves and wall decor, and then finished it with some final touches.
