The Apps We Use Every Day (And You Should Too)!
The new year has certainly started off with a bang, and staying organized is more important than ever (and also one of our 2020 resolutions)! Which is why we’re listing all of the apps that help us stay on track, stay sustainable, and stay healthy this year. Here are all the apps we love!
Clear, Penultimate & Good Notes
These apps are designed for taking notes and are so satisfying and helpful. The regular notes app doesn’t cut it for us, so these are just what we need when it comes to remembering daily tasks and lists. Also check out this template for Good Notes that you can purchase off of Etsy, which is what Kelsey uses for her notes!
Pinterest is SUCH a lifesaver, and tbh we’d be lost without it. Organizing things into boards helps us keep track of all our DIY ideas and makeover inspo pics. And make sure to follow our Pinterest here so you can get inspired too!
Kelsey is training for a 10k marathon this year and I’m trying so hard to get back into yoga, so fitness apps are really useful to us right now. Couch to 10k is Kelsey’s go-to training app for her 10k race this spring, which tracks your progress and helps you gradually reach your goal. Aaptiv is a paid app, but it’s like podcasting for your workout; instead of watching a workout video, you can get tailored workouts in audio format so that when you’re at the gym, no one will know that you’re really following someone's instructions. So perfect if you’re like me and feel dazed by all the machines and movements that you can do at the gym.
This is the number one application that we turn to when we design room makeovers because it is so user-friendly and also iPad-compatible. They do charge you a small fee for purchasing the app, but it’s a one-and-done fee and it’s so worth it. We make floor plans, pull in inspo pics and even create time lapses of the design to play during our videos. This app really does it all!
These two apps aren’t affiliated with each other but they kind of go hand-in-hand. VSCO is a photo-editing app that lets you take full-control of editing your pictures. If you want to learn how Becky edits her Instagram photos then check out our tutorial on our channel here. Retrocam is another editing app, but it’s great for filters like adding grain rather than in-depth edits. Both make a super great combo when you’re trying to post a sweet pic on the ‘gram (which you should also follow us on here!)
If there’s one thing we love at TSG it’s FOOD! Meal Lime is a meal planning app that also uses sustainable practices. It not only recommends meals to make for dinner, it uses the groceries that you have for those meals and recommends others with the same ingredients so that no food goes to waste. We love a tasty zero-waste meal!
Kijiji, Facebook Marketplace & Poshmark
These three are all platforms to shop for thrifted or second-hand items. Poshmark focuses on fashion specifically and Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace are more for furniture or other items. But all help reduce our ecological footprint and also get some sweet deals!
TikTok is definitely the Big Thing happening on the internet today, and we have absolutely jumped on that bandwagon. We love watching how creative people can get in 15 seconds and even started a TikTok of our own - follow us @thesorrygirls on TikTok!
These two are both considered games for your smartphone, but differ greatly. Happy Glass is a game designed to test the laws of physics with the goal to get all of the water from the tap into your glass, hence making a Happy Glass. It’s really fun and can definitely be tricky, so it’s also a way of boosting your brain power. Elevate is a brain-training app that asks you skill-testing questions designed to make you smarter and more focused. It’s no walk in the park but you will learn a thing or two and enjoy doing it!
Mint is a finance app that analyzes your spending and helps you come up with a plan to budget. It’s great because you can attach multiple accounts to it, so if you have credit cards from several banks it will include the purchases you made from every card rather than just one bank. We are gettin’ that coin in 2020 ladies!
Sadly, Venmo is not available in the Great White North, but luckily Splitwise is! Splitwise is an app that helps keep track of finances that you have to, well, split. It’s perfect for when you’re out to dinner with a few friends and you’re panicking when the bill arrives with all the items on one. This eliminates all of that anxiety by being able to add the total onto Splitwise and allocate expenses to each person. It then keeps track on the app of who owes what, and you can swipe away once the money’s been sent. It’s way more convenient than keeping receipts and trying to track down who owes what!
This is a little more Toronto-specific but maybe your town or city has something similar that you can check out. It’s called the TOwaste app and it’s a searchable database for when you’re unsure whether something is recycling, compost or garbage. Say I have a styrofoam cup and I don’t know which bin it goes in - the TOwaste app will tell me! Such a great way to get excited about sustainability and use less waste.
Goodonyou is an app designed to help you shop with mother nature in mind. You can search up brands like Nike or McDonalds and it will give you their rating on how sustainable their practices are. It’ll also tell you similar products or brands that rate better so that you can be a savvy shopper.
We hope that this list helps you out a little bit this year whether you want to get fit, be more eco-friendly or just have a little fun in your spare time. Let us know if you decide to download these apps, and what your current favs are!
