Making the West Elm Mistletoe Garland on a Budget
Every holiday season, we see a huge emergence of cute and trendy decor. The issue is, although cute, the prices are ridiculously high on most of the items, especially ones that are easily DIYable. I was browsing the West Elm website when I came across this faux garland for $104.00CAD! That is way over budget for something that won’t be in the house all year around, so I decided to make it myself instead!
Materials
Here is what you’re going to need
Green Felt
White pompoms or cotton balls
Hot Glue
Marker
Paper template
Using this template, download, print and cut it out on a piece of scrap paper! Next, trace it repeatedly on your felt with a marker.
Before cutting out my stars, to replicate the texture of the felt from West Elm, I am taking a trusty cat comb and brushing out the material to fray it up a bit and create more dimension. Once the felt is prepped, you can go ahead and cut along the lines you drew out!
Now that you have all of your star shapes cut out, you can glue them together to create a small clusters! Add a dab on hot glue at the centre of your star and attach three together in the middle point.
Once the glue has dried, use an embroidery needle and floss to attach them all to a string. Make sure no string is showing once they are all on, as they should be close enough to each other that you only see the green.
Finally, it’s time to add the white pompoms to finish off the look! Using the same hot glue as before, add a dab at the centre of each cluster and place them to your liking!
