EASY DIY Floating Side Table For Small Rooms

If you have a small bedroom, having a side table quickly eats up space making your room feel a lot smaller. An easy design hack for this is installing a floating shelf instead! As you can see below, my room does not have a lot of space to work with, so here’s how I made my floating side table.

Making The Side Table

Using some scrap plywood I had laying around our office, I decided to make a little open faced cube to hang up on the wall. Below it the measurements I came up with to fit in my space, but you can easily adjust these to suit how large you want yours to be!

Cut List

  • 16” x 6” (x1)

  • 16” x 5” (x2)

    • each end should be cut on a 45° angle facing inwards

  • 6” x 5” (x2)

    • each end should be cut on a 45° angle facing inwards

All I did to connect them together was use wood glue, clamps and some screws to secure them. I gave it a nice stain to match the aesthetics of the room and it was done!
