RED CARPET LOOKS FROM THE THRIFT STORE!
Today we are going to take Thrift Flip one step further, and create some totally glam looks, inspired by the Met Gala! We headed over to the thrift store to look for some dresses and other fun pieces for our outfits, and when we got back to the office we got to DIYing.
BECKY’S RED DRESS
Becky ended up picking up a shorter red dress and longer red dress! She started by cutting off the skirt of the longer dress to use as the train for later.
She then cut off some more fabric from the bodice of the dress to sew into two long rectangles to act as two drapey sleeves. She pinned and sewed the sleeves to be off the shoulder!
Next, with the extra fabric, Becky is going to create a train from where the sleeves start all the way down to the floor! She went ahead and pinned and sewed this into place.
To finish off the look, she added some gold accessories and shoes (also from the thrift store) and she was done!
KELSEY’S SNAKESKIN DRESS
Kelsey also ended up picking up two different dresses, one really cute snakeskin tighter dress, and another blue dress that was a big larger and had a cool gold/black decal on the front! Kelsey started by cutting the skirt off of the larger dress. She then went ahead and flipped in inside out, and split the skirt in half lengthwise. There was actually a seam down tow back of the skirt, which make this process easier.
Once the skirt was split open, Kelsey went ahead and sewed all of the edges of the skirt to refine the edges a bit. Next step is to pin the hemmed up skirt to the back half of the snakeskin dress as a sort of panel/train! She pinned this up, and sewed everything in place!
Finally, to make this outfit extra Met Gala, Kelsey took the belt from the navy dress, added ribbon to it, and made it a super cool choker! She finished up the outfit with some totally 90s shoes and earings, and she’s ready for the Met Gala.
