Small Space Vintage Front Entryway Makeover - Making Home
Welcome to my series Making Home where I makeover my newly renovated house into my dream home! If you haven’t seen the previous episodes where I demo my house, go through renovations and finally start decorating then you need to check out our playlist here. I totally transformed my basement bathroom, refreshed my kitchen, made over my bedroom, completed my upstairs rental unit, and finished my functional front room!
This week is all about my entryway, which is the short hallway right when you walk in the door, which separates my tenant’s unit from my unit. Take a look at what this hallway looked like pre-reno, and then post-reno:

I decided to go with the black and white hex tile design you see above for the floors, so that it gave a vintage lobby vibe when you walk in the door. Since I live in Canada, the floors needed to be durable for the wintertime, and I thought this would add a nice homage to the age of the home.
After the floors were installed, I decided to paint half of the hallway a neutral greige colour, including the baseboards, trim and doors! This gave the hallway a warmer feel, and added some interest to the otherwise plain walls.
Next, I wanted to add hooks onto the walls so that when guests come over they have a place to hang their coats. I decided to go with a peg rail DIY solution, similar to the one installed in my front room, that would continue around the entire hallway. To find out how to make this, check out my YouTube video showing the entire process!
Once I installed the peg rail, the next step was to add some decor elements like these amazing 3D printed planters from a local business, and some small vintage items I had laying around. I also swapped out the light fixture so that it was less harsh than the pot light that was there before. Check out my new front hall entryway!
AFTER
I really love how this small space turned out, it’s simple but so elegant, and I can’t wait for the spring when I can swap out the door for something a bit brighter and modern! If you want to see how this whole process came together, check out the whole episode below!
