CRAZY DORM MAKEOVER FOR MOVIES + CHILL
Today is our second dorm room makeover and we are SO excited about it. We’ve never really decorated a room for someone with more of a masculine style, and today we’re doing it!
Today we are making over Ishaan’s room! He is the co-president of his dorm, is studying biophysics, and has a passion for filmmaking. We’re here to enhance the super cool features of his room (I mean, check out those windows!!), add some style, and bring some organization back into his life!
ISHAAN'S DORM ROOM - TIPS:
1. MORE PILLOWS AND MORE BLANKETS!
Adding more of these things to your bed can give your bed a more styled, full, and luxe look. We went with neutrals and navy blues for this colour scheme.
2. BASKETS ON BASKETS
Add baskets. Organizing and separating your stuff into baskets really helps make your room look cleaner and more styled. An extra tip: If you have extra stuff (such as textbooks or Ishaan’s super cool lab coat and goggles), put it on display! Stacking your stuff really helps it look styled.
3. CABLE MANAGEMENT
There’s nothing uglier in a room than cables and wires hanging everywhere. Try using these sticky removable cable management hooks! They totally help place the cables where you want them, and lay flat against the wall out of sight.
4. REARRANGING THE ROOM
Though we didn’t do a TON of rearranging, we did move Ishaan’s desk over a bit and this totally opened up the space. Remember, the layout of your room isn’t permanent, and moving some stuff around can really transform the look of your space.
5. USING WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE
Let your interests shine! Ishaan has a pretty sweet drone and some awesome accessories that we kept on display to add some personal design elements.
We also used his personal movie projector as inspo for an incredible DIY projector screen! Here’s how we made it…
MINI DIY: MOVIE PROJECTOR SCREEN
Cost: $15-$20
Difficulty: Easy
Supplies: Thick white sheet/fabric, wooden dowels
Tools: Sewing machine, measuring tape, pencil, fabric scissors.
To make this super easy DIY projector screen, start by using an online aspect ratio calculator to determine the size of fabric you’ll need. Once you have those measurements, cut out your fabric leaving some room at the top and bottom so that you can create a tube to insert your wooden dowel. Fold over your top and bottom pieces, and sew creating a tube. Thread your wooden dowel through the tubes and you are ready to hang! Removable sticky wall hooks are perfect for hanging this in a dorm room!
6. unique wall art
Creating your very own unique wall art can really elevate your space. We asked Ishaan for a favourite quote or saying, and we cut it out using our Silhouette machine and some sticky Silhouette paper that we printed a really cool design onto. When we got to the dorm, we peeled the letters and stuck them to the wall.
7. mirrors!
Adding a floor mirror is not only practical, but it is also a great way to open up a small space! Mirrors add the illusion of space and bounce light around the room, two things you usually need more of in a dorm.
8. final touches
Adding small trinkets and final touches to the room can add personality and really make the room feel styled.
And that’s it! Ishaan’s room is done!
