How To Stage Your Home To Sell It For More Money

“Home staging is the preparation of a private residence for sale in the real estate marketplace. The goal of staging is to make a home appealing to the highest number of potential buyers, thereby selling a property more swiftly and for more money.”

Whether you like it or not, the selling market is always shifting and if you are selling a home, you need to adapt to what the market is doing at the time. As I was selling my house, I learned a lot about what I needed to do to stage it and thought I would share with you guys to help a pal out!

The first and most obvious tip I have for you is to de-clutter. Although I personally like a lot of personality and individualistic items in my home, when someone is touring a new home, it is easier to imagine them living there if there is not too much of someone else’s presence there.

As you can see, I had to keep the colour palette pretty neutral throughout the space, so the home buyers could envision adding things in instead of taking things away.

The more bedrooms the better, so I turned my secondary room upstairs that was being used as a walk-in closet into a bedroom. This definitely will increase the selling value and attract larger families.

Taking away the majority of the patterns I had was also pretty important for the same reason as decluttering. It can be distracting to get a feel of the space if there is too much going on, so trying to minimize that as much as possible is great.

Lastly, taking away family / personal pictures and items that you have around the space will be helpful. It can be hard for a home buyer to imagine a space to be their own if there is so much remanence of the previous owner. I opted to switch my gallery wall into a more neutral palette by grabbing digital files for a gallery wall off of Etsy for a really good price!

Here are a couple shots of the whole space tied together!
