EMBROIDERED CONSTELLATION PATCH

Materials:

Tools:

  • Embroidery hoop

  • Needle

  • Pencil

  • Scissors

Today we’re starting out with this really pretty embroidered constellation patch! We found this really cool paper that we can attach to fabric to make it into an iron-on patch!

Start by placing some fabric of your choice inside of an embroidery hoop. Try and pick a fabric that is thick and somewhat stiff. Next, look up the constellation of your sign of choice, and mark where the stars would go with some pencil in the middle of your fabric. Next, take some embroidery thread and make three stitches to form a star wherever there is a dot.

Next, go ahead and connect all of the dots with a straight line, as per the constellation! After your constellation is done, feel free to add small stitches around the constellations to act as smaller stars.

Next, draw a smaller circle around your design, release it from the embroidery hoop, and cut it out. We next took some heat bond material (we used Heat n’ Bond), which will turn any material into a patch. Follow the package instructions, and iron on the heat bond material to the back of the embroidery patch.

Once it’s cooled, you can cut out the circle, and your patch is ready to be gifted! If you don’t want to use the heat bond material, you an also use fabric glue. (Also, check out our patches here!)

CONSTELLATION NECKLACE

Materials:

  • Gold chain

  • Crimp beads

  • Gold wire

Next, we are going to show you how to make this gorgeous zodiac constellation necklace. Start with some gold chain and add crimp beads to either end.

Grab your gold wire, and start shaping it into the constellation of your choice. Be sure to add small loops to the ends of the wire where it will be attaching to the chain. You can also use small loops to attach different lines of the constellation to the rest of the wire (we did this in the middle of the ‘Y’ shape of our constellation).

We added the whole design onto the chain with some jump rings, and super glued some tiny star shaped beads onto the constellation, where the stars would be. The super glue also helps the design to stay in place.

CONSTELLATION WATERCOLOUR WALL ART

Zodiac2-2.jpg

Materials:

  • Watercolour paint

  • Watercolour paper

  • White out pen

Tools:

  • Paint brush

  • Scissors

Start by cutting a square of watercolour paper to your desired size. Now, we aren’t painters but watercolours are super easy to work with. We started with the outside edges of our image, using a darker colour, and worked our way in using lighter colours. We went for this really cool dark blue to light blue galaxy colour scheme. Once you’re happy with your design, let it dry!

Once dry, map out your constellation in pencil, and use a white out pen to add lines and dots to outline the shape of the constellation.

ZODIAC SIGN KEYCHAIN

Zodiac2-4.jpg

Materials:

  • Shrinky-dink paper

Tools:

  • Pencil

  • Sharpie

  • Scissors

  • Hole-punch

The shrinky-dinks are back! You guys loved them when we’ve used them in the past (linked here), and we love DIYing with them! Today we’re going to make these really cute sign-inspired keychains!

Start by drawing a circle onto your shrinky-dink paper in pencil. Next, go ahead and draw out your preferred zodiac symbol. Remember, shinky-dinks shrink 2-3x their original size, so draw big! Go over both of these pencil designs with some sharpie. Next, cut a circle about a half an inch around your sharpie circle, leaving room for and punching a hole at the top of the keychain. Finally, we added (with thinner sharpie) a saying that applies to the individuals with this sign. Once done, we put our shrinky-dinks on some parchment paper in a 325 degree oven. Check the package directions, but check your keychain often! Once it’s stopped bubbling and moving, and it’s lying flat, let it sit for another 30 seconds in the oven. Next, take it out of the oven and immediately flatten it down with a scrap piece of cardboard. From there, you can add it to a keychain!
