ROOM STYLING TIPS

Although Kelsey and I moved into the office a few months ago, we still felt as though there was something missing to the space. I’ve had this feeling before about rooms so we took to the internet to rally up some of the best tips to completing a room and helping it to look “finished”. While we had heard some of these tips before, we had never actually done them and we can’t believe the different it made to the office! We’ve listed some of our favourite tips below along with some before and after pictures. To see the full collection of tips in action, make sure to watch the office makeover below!

1. Gallery Walls
Gallery walls can give life to an empty wall and can give purpose to any pieces that feel out of place. Our whiteboard stood out against the plain white wall and so adding items around it helped it flow seamlessly with the rest of the room decor. Remember, gallery walls don’t have to be strictly photos! Adding items into frames or hanging objects such as our hanging wall planter offer more interesting options.
TIP: Cut out all of your frame sizes from scrap paper first and pre-arrange them on the wall so you can easily shift things around before nailing.

2. Update Old Items
Don’t forget the simple things; swapping out something as inexpensive as old tea towels can really bring life to a kitchen!
TIP: Try and choose patterns that pull colours from matching things around the room to create a cohesive look.

4. Plants
Sometimes rooms can feel a bit stale and the simplest way to bring life to a space is plants! Single flower or giant fern, any plant will do the trick.
TIP: Don’t have a green thumb? Faux plants work just as well! We have a tutorial on how to make your own here

5: Rugs
Rugs are very important in grounding a room and giving large pieces of furniture balance. In our case, they can also create a room within a room by giving different parts of the floor a different feel
TIP: Loud patterns are A- OK as long as it falls within a matching colour pallet to the rest of the space

6. Pillows
Pillows are a designer’s favourite but sometimes it can be overwhelming with so many options out there. A good rule of thumb is to stick within a pallet but making sure to vary the textures and sizes.

7. One Weird Thing
Our last big tip in solving that missing piece in the room decor mystery is to always have “one weird thing”. Whether that’s a unique antique lamp or gold painted hand sculpture, having something that demands attention can make a room  memorable. One of our favourites is our DIY Dino Planters that conveniently fulfill this rule and the plants rule 😉
