SAME DIY: $30 vs $300
We are really excited about today’s DIY because we are going to challenge ourselves to make the same project for $30 and $300. We’re really pumped to show you that DIYs can be as fancy or inexpensive as you want them to be!
Let's start with the $300 version!
For this marble and hairpin leg table we picked up a piece of carrara marble, we picked ours up from a local countertop/tile store. The price totally varies, but we got ours for $180. The hairpin legs were $100 total for all three. You can find these online or in a local hardware store. We also picked up some liquid gold leaf paint for $10, and finally some construction adhesive glue for $10!
We started by painting our legs gold. When the paint is dry, it’s time to attach the legs.
We used construction adhesive to attach the legs because it’s very difficult to drill into the marble. Apply a generous amount of construction adhesive on the bottom of the table and let it dry for 24 hours. And you’re done! SUPER luxe looking, right?
Next we are going to try and recreate the same table for only $30.
For this next ‘marble’ and hairpin leg table we picked up three toilet paper roll holders from the dollar store for a total of $6, marble contact paper that we picked up from the dollar store for $1.25, a can of gold spray paint for $10, and finally an MDF board for $10.
The first step is to paint the toilet paper roll holders gold! While those dry, we moved on to making the table top. We drew a circle that was 25 inches wide onto our MDF and cut it out with a jig saw. To clean up any uneven edges we went around the circle with an electric sander. Time to add the marble! We added two pieces of the marble contact paper to the top, making sure to line up the pattern, and strips to cover the sides. We cut off the extra paper and cut out the strips of contact paper using an exacto knife. Now that the gold table legs are dry, we are going to attach them to the table top using the same heavy duty construction glue as the $300 table! We taped them in place and let them dry for a full 24 hours. We’re pretty happy with what we could do for only $30!!
And that’s it! Which one are you going to make? If you do end up making one of these send us a picture using the hashtag #SorryGirlsSquad and your post could be featured on our instagram page! Also be sure to check out the video below!
